Purse straps... who knew, right? While I realize that this trend obviously did not start with the Hermes Evelyne bag, I also have to tell you that this is where it started for me.
I'd seen the Evelyne bag countless times before, but I had just started working at Foxy when one came in and someone suggested I display it with a Fendi purse strap that was being displayed in a separate case. What? A Fendi strap on an Hermes bag? I feared that this was a fashion faux pas, like wearing too many different logos at once, but considering the source, (Foxy's owner, founder, and plethora of fashion information- Susan) I knew this must be something big.
So I removed the short unadjustable cloth strap that comes on the Evelyne I and I clipped on the black studded Fendi strap, which matched the Evelyne's leather perfectly. It was like I was able to see the light for the very first time, comparable to the time I learned that many Chanel belts are also worn as necklaces.
It was brilliant. You take a bag, whether it's already flashy or something quite plain, and make it uniquely your own by adding a strap. Why didn't I think of this sooner?
So here I am, three years and countless straps later, staring at this month's new arrivals, thinking about how our newest Fendi purse strap would compliment so many beautiful bags in our shop.
If you've ever been to Carmel, you've seen an Hermes Evelyne bag. They are a staple fashion accessory and nothing tops one off like a designer purse strap to make it your own. I'd love to imagine that our little shop started this Carmel-by-the-Sea trend, but alas, we are just the messengers to a much bigger and more fabulous fashion picture. This casual, mold to the shape of your body, soft leather bag becomes a fashion statement when paired with a fun purse strap! Paired with a comfy sweatshirt or a sweet summer slip dress, this combo is sure to turn heads.
