Our Story

Meet Our Foxy Family

Welcome to Foxy Couture! Our fabulous founder, Susan Galvin, has been in the business of vintage and luxury resale for over 30 years, and has resided in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea for almost 10 years. Everything in our shop is guaranteed authentic and is hand selected by our experienced staff from trusted consignors with whom Susan has built trusting relationships with throughout the years. Foxy receives new consignments daily, however due to the small size of our shop and the integrity of the brands we carry, we are extremely selective about the pieces we bring in. All of our items are very well cared for, while some items have never been used at all! While vintage couture is the heart and soul of Foxy, we also carry a wide variety of current designer fashion. If you have any questions for any of our staff members or item on our site, please click here. Thank you for visiting our shop!

Starting from an early age, Susan has been an avid student of fashion and style. As a teenager, she read everything from British Vogue to Lineament Italiana, and anything else she could get her hands on.

Susan grew up in South Florida in the Palm Beach/Miami Area. Her mom was a big influence on her and taught her a lot about fashion and shared with Susan her love of fine fabrics. In high school Susan began starting to collect designer clothing and accessories after her mom passed down several vintage and designer gowns to her.

Susan adores exploring the story behind a design and how each one broke new ground. While the 70’s are her favorite era in fashion, she collects items from every era from all over the world.

After earning a practical degree in finance from Florida State University, Susan moved to San Francisco and worked in her field for a short time before deciding to follow her heart and turn her passions into a business. She studied pattern making and draping at the Louise Salinger School of Design. Thus began her career in vintage and designer luxury goods.

In 2010, Susan opened her first shop, Foxy Couture Carmel, which has grown into the premier luxury and vintage resale shop in the area. While she specializes in all designers, she is especially proud of her collection of Chanel clothing, jewelry, and accessories.

While Susan never anticipated herself owning a store, now she can’t image it any other way. She is especially fond of the way it has connected her to the community and given her the opportunity to give back to local foundations. Foxy Couture has been proud to sponsor and donate to a number of charities including the Girls Inc. Bubbles and Bags event, Community Foundation’s Women’s Fund, Harmony at Home, and the SPCA.

While Susan is the owner and founder of Foxy Couture, she considers herself to be an equal member of a working team, and admits that she couldn’t keep her shop running without her Foxy family, Carmela and Areanna.

As a child, Carmela stacked issues of Seventeen magazine in the corner of her room, dreaming of one day styling the models in the ads. She always had an appreciation for fashion and was considered by her friends as the go-to for advice on what to wear.

After completing a degree in Marketing, Carmela found herself being drawn towards the fashion and beauty industry. She worked with several photographers, providing hair, makeup, and fashion styling for models and families during milestone shoots. With the mentality of “Go Big or Go Home”, Carmela enrolled in Paul Mitchell the School with the intent of moving to New York City after obtaining her Cosmetology License and working as a fashion and editorial stylist.

It was in NYC that Carmela connected with Lasio Professional Haircare, where she worked as their Creative Director and Global Educator. She specialized in visual marketing, editorial styling, and brand education. Carmela’s passion was creating the photoshoots used in Lasio brand campaigns and having her hand in each project from conception to completion.

Carmela also freelanced as a personal and editorial stylist. She especially enjoyed helping people express themselves creatively through fashion. She loved watching her clients develop their sense of style and gain confidence in their personal style. Where editorial styling was concerned, Carmela said it was like painting a canvas and telling a story with real people.

In 2017 Carmela moved to Monterey and stumbled upon Foxy Couture. She felt an instant admiration and appreciation for the store and it’s owner, Susan Galvin. As an avid fan of the Sex and the City series, she admits that the first time she entered the shop, she felt like she was stepping into Carrie Bradshaw’s closet.

Carmela continues to offer her personal and editorial styling services to the shop and adores being part of the Foxy Family.
